About me, Lynsey McDonald

Hey, I’m Lynsey, founder and Master Trainer of The Sculpt Method. I’m a 42 year old mum of 3 children and I have qualifications in Personal Training, Callanetics, Biomechanics and Menopause. Im also an ex gymnast. The inspiration behind my exercises come from my knowledge, experience and love of all these areas. Sculpt exercises are all mat and barre based, can be done with or without equipment and are designed for people of all sexes, fitness levels and limitations to enjoy and progress.

So why did I develop The Sculpt Method?

  • I wanted to develop an exercise programme that anyone can do, and will give amazing but different benefits to different people - depending on your personal goals. Sculpt ticks so many boxes!
  • I suffer from EhlersDanlos Syndrome (hypermobility) which means I have faulty connective tissue and as a result my joints move past the range of normal movement. This causes pain, risk of injury and fatigue as my muscles have to work extra hard to stabilise my joints. I also have small tumours in my spine as a result of a painful and debilitating condition called Adhesive Arachnoditis.

Because of this, I wanted the Sculpt exercises to be non impact, thus placing no stress on the joints and back. They are designed to build lean muscles around the joints, helping the body to stabilise itself. Since developing and practising Sculpt every day, I no longer experience pain in my joints, my back is stronger and my posture has improved beyond comparison. I want other people who may have similar problems with their joints and back to benefit as much as I have from the Sculpt exercises - thats my mission, thats my passion!

  • I also wanted to create an exercise discipline that both compliments and adds benefit other exercise methods that people do. So if you are a runner it will help build strength in your core, glutes and will stretch out your hamstrings - enhancing your running pattern. If you’re a ballet dancer, Sculpt will strengthen and stretch the deep lateral rotator muscles under your bottom giving you a better turn out. A skier will greatly benefit from Sculpt’s intense quad and core exercises, giving you more stability and strength on the slopes.
  • Finally I wanted to create a exercise discipline that was totally different from anything else around. Sculpt is just that - unique. The 3 ranges of movements used, coupled with the intense stretching gives a full body workout that is as amazing as it is intense. I challenge anyone to find a class that makes you makes your body feel as worked and stretched as Sculpt does.

One of my main philosophies is that I believe sculpt as with all exercise should be fun. The class is not easy but i strive to make sure there is always a relaxed and positive feel, where everyone - no matter their level, feels welcome and encouraged.

This, I believe is the key to empowering people to achieve and progress.
